Phils Last Blog the Saga has ended. NO NEED HAYDEN CHRISTIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay this is the big one , the final , the bacon , the eggs and of course for the course cheese. Yeah enough of all that blabber talk this class has come to an end an end of blogging I would have never found my self blogging since the name is kind of weird but beyond my intelligent thinking I would like to comment on the intense amount of work that has been done in the name of English 101. If I am going to barely pass by my the slim of my haggard boots i will do it in style. Okay the things that I have learned firstly is stay on top of your work. I cannot stress more importantly than to stay on top of what you are doing for me that was the tie breaker to end all tie breakers. I would have had a ton of free time if just stayed on top of my work. Secondly and probably the most important is that I learned about music. I really enjoyed the songs we learned about and the many insane ways that music has influenced many people in a variety of genres. This class was kind of like my history of rock and roll class except the teacher with the psudo mullet randomly saying Dylan was a poet and preaching about the insanity of Phil Spectar was not present, but this class did have a certern enjoyable vibe if you will. Now I as I stated before I am probably the most uninformed music person there is I survived by the synopsis my buddies used to give me about band culture since I am a techno freak. What I can take from this point is that I can enjoy a variety of music and understand the meanings of the beats or vocals or even the energy that is being displayed in the songs. But besides my ignorance and love for bad ass tunes I must say learning about music and culture was really fun and interesting I never realized that I could learn so much depth about culture from music. The other important stuff was the amazing apperication for writing I never knew that I can fully express my ideas on paper and wow I said some crazy stuff as well as some dumb stuff but I am still learning!. Another thing I learned is how much fun blogs could be I never really cared for blogs since I always thought the name was weird but recently I have become like the monarch from The Venture Brothers. I really found this class to also be challenging. It was challenging in the fact that the papers where hard I am currently aiming to get my research paper on the ready for the final on Friday and the timed writing is going to be hard because I will have to unload a flurry of ideas that make sense so I can pass this course besides all my ranting and raving my opinion stands in that I will come out on top in this class or die trying.

Writings through time it was the REPS !!!!!!!!!!

As this tedious yet interesting class comes to a dramatic end I ponder on my writing ability? Did I get better or did I stay the same trapped in my own personal bubble of Philness? What ever the case maybe my writing has improved in many areas. I think firstly my writing as improved in the areas of creativity . I think that writing is one of the most creative things you can do because of the many different ways and topics you could write about. In my own personal writing I began to think really what was the meaning behind every thing so what I did was use a semi bias's opinion on what i was reading. I found that keeping an open mind in my writing helped me really expand on what i was writing. I remember when I used to hate writing but now I dont mind writing as such a tedious task. Some of the ways my writing has gotten better would be in just consistent practice. I find if you consistently practice at one thing you will get good at it. The readings where fun they where around the music culture , since I am one dimensioned on the subject I found my self actually liking the music lovers genre. The writing I enjoyed the most was on Kurt Cobain and Ice Cube they really made me think on what their genres really stood for and still stand for. The blogs in this class are killer even though I am not a gigantic fan of blogging its still kinda fun to post your opinion every once in a while and it's really fun when you have the craziest stuff come out of your mouth. But my main pet peeve with the blogs are the time consumption. Man it takes me at least thirty minutes to do one single blog but in the grand scheme of things I can see the principle of the more you can dish out i writing the easier it will become for the writer to come out with new ideas. The essay writing was pretty solid I enjoy most of them expect for the research paper I still have no idea how i am going to edit that monster but I will have to buckle up and edit this piece because this time theirs no holding back on my papers. The PDRs are nice because it gives you a sense of what other peoples ideas are not to steal the ideas but to use similar ideas for your own paper. Also pier feedback is important because pier feedback helps you cut out the nonessential of your papers and I know I am one to have a ton of unnecessary stuff. The discussion boards where pretty cool I found that the questions where all based on our writings and I remember the first thing I posted was something crazy like " I am drinking A FORTY DIPPING ON DUBS" maybe that's not what I posted but its similar in stupidity. All and all I must say my writing has increased to a higher degree.

Paper or Plastic is Boz Scaggs the Casheir?

Now I have expressed my hate for little Wayne and garbage like Gucci mane but let's take five leaping steps back or forward to some good stuff. In the music world there is two types of artist the first of which is the artist who makes music for money and grandeur or Gucci Mane this type of artist seeks only to forward the dollar and lacks any kind of creative skill necessary to survive. The second of which is the real musician who makes music for money but a sense they know music has influence on people. Now the genre I listen to is Electronic Dance which some people call robot music regardless of this claim there is one group that rocks my socks called Infected Mushroom. Infected Mushroom is an electronic a group that incorporates a diverse use of inurnments to play their music. They have a Dj , a guitar player , a singer and a crazy ass drummer. It sounds like a crazy cocktail but it's really cool because the way they set up their music is very unique and talented. Some of their songs aren't that good but who to say every musician has platinum on every thing they produce. To me infected mushroom is crazy they come at you with crazy lyrics and hard power solos and the drummer is going crazy as well as the Dj mixing everything in together. Infected Mushroom puts on one hell of a show for its audience and without a doubt they sound just as clean as they do on the radio. Their originality with there tracks gets them get into almost every show in LA for every big festival. As crazy as infected mushroom there is the dark-side of creativity or plastic. The band I say without a doubt is the most crap is either Jim Jones or Sean Kingston. Now I don't hate Sean Kingston but if you listen to his lyrics it sounds like crap. Their is absolutely no creative bone in that dudes body. Another thing I rag on is the presentation of Sean Kingston its not that’s he is fat its they are playing him as the nice fat guy that can sing that’s not cool shoot not every fat person can sing. The song suicidal is just awful they could have talked about pop tarts and I would have wanted to eat pop tarts instead of Offing My self over some chick. Jim Jones song not only kills the black community it kills any thought process on how we as a society are to express our selves in musical form. So yeah Sean Kingston is pretty bad , Jim Jones follows second with his song about stealing and ballin . So if you want to lose brain cells listen to Sean Kingston or Jim Jones. So the question is what are going to listen to will it the soothing voice of John Legend ,the sensation of Lady Gaga or will it be crap like Barry Manilow?.

Phil Garcia VS the Horendous Beast of a Research Paper . Can He surrive

First off I must say in my defense and to the defense of my fallen comrade’s research papers suck! Don't do them they kill like cigarettes and fast food. No just kidding actually research paper is going along very slow but in that defense I have a really good layout of how i am going to write about so my structure is never bad upon my papers its just going to be the tedious work of finding the elaborate amount of sources that I need to implement into the luxurious work that I will create for this stupendous assignment. This paper I believe is the final paper but as for a final six pages of beastly writing multiple sources and an ungodly amount of time really speak words for me. My plans for furthering my success in this class I must complete this assignment with perfect form. As for my paper I am writing it on Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal as a genre is both loved and hated by people every where. Conservatives and church goers call it the devils music and most people can stand the extreme amount of macho manliness that is in the music but beyond the genres flaws reveal a style that is extremely hard. It is the hardness of the style that leads the style to be broken and reinvented in to many subcategories like Thrash metal, NU Metal and Tech Metal. Metal in it self is a very powerful and misunderstood style that puts its critics to question its lyrics and symbolic references against deity’s and established governments. My main idea for this paper is give the idea that heavy metal isn’t a cult inspired genre of music nor is it a music genre that embraces violence but is a genre that shows raw manliness and power driven ballads. Some of the difficulties that I am finding are in my sources. I have a few sources on pro Metal ideas but finding any thing negative about the genre is hard. In order to find actual criticism on the style I might have to read or reference a book on the subject but Heavy Metal is almost a dead style so it’s hard to find any kind of references on the subject without running into old on the subject. In order to complete this assignment I will also need proper ways to quote my assignment with the materials that I will be reading for the information. The assignment it self is really hard too because not only is Heavy metal a largely diverse genre but it is a genre with a lot of cult following not pre say is it like Jim Jones cult but Army Darkness cult culture where a small group still loves metal and only metal. Finally I really want to try to put some steel panther references in my paper now I know steel panther is a goof ball band but they do have a small number of die hard fans that follow them. I believe the sum of my paper will come down to defending the Heavy Metal Fan base and explaining how they are a pop culture cult.

King of Blogging Week 12 Johnny Depp is Robbing us Blind

Internet piracy is a big deal nowadays with the explosion of Napster and other media sharing devices can be considered as piracy. I remember about a couple years back when lime wire was really big and I could get all the free movies and music I wanted. Now I know stealing music and movies is not right by any meanings necessary but still i must have stolen a lot of stuff. Now that I am older I think about how much money I must have been stealing and its like dang I really stole like thousands of dollars of music but you know little did I know who I was hurting because every one was doing the whole Lime wire and or portal downloads. Needless to say that file sharing is a crime that puts the music industry in terrible shape. I mean look how many music portals there are now for downloading MP3's . The music industry is tied to the FBI in its attempts to stop Pirates from illegally downloading songs. I think that piracy hurts the companies very harshly because the companies lose revenue on the sells that they should have made. I you figure they lose about a dollar a song but in the grand scheme of things if over a million people download one song that's like losing a million dollars its sad but in reality pirates are no joke to the music industry and hurt its economic abilities to produce even better music. The laws the they have are crazy too for instance if you get caught with bootleg movies you go to jail for a serious amount of time and the FBI is not joking they do catch and prosecute people for piracy. The musicians get hurt a lot too because the musicians are the ones who are like puppets in the industry all the money goes to the producers and the musicians are like the artist and figure heads that get paid the least and suffer the most with the payouts. The truth is that Musicians lose the power of copyright on their tracks and that sucks because the tracks that they spent time on making aren’t really theirs a good anoglie to make for this would be that if I make the Mona Lisa than that painting is under my name but still the right of ownership is not mine its under the company that I have signed with to paint the picture so in reality I would have no legal rights to that painting. The same concept goes for musicians who strive to make a name for them selves. It sucks but the fact is that people download music hurt the music industry in a very bad way if I made music than I would be pissed because its my hard work being messed around with by people who don’t want to pay and that shows musicians who are really fans are not by purchasing the songs they strive to make.

Thriller this COMMERICAL!!!!!!!!

In this weeks discussion we learn about how a song can sell a product. Now it’s a given in any situation that commercials use music in their advertisement to sell their products. But one company has come to a serious halt when they are selling their product. The company spirit has used some of Michael Jackson’s music to sell their Halloween costumes but the commercial is just dreadful when it comes to the way they represented that song. The commercial is about a minute long and has people dancing and waving their hands while they show off the costumes they are selling Now I dislike the comerical lot because it disgraces the majesty of Thriller. It’s not that I am a Michael Jackson fan or anything its that people use his music to sell their busted Halloween costumes I mean it sucks because Jackson is pop culture icon and seeing a bunch of dorks running around in a commercial for a Halloween ad is repulsive the representation of thriller is done very poorly in the commercial. An example of the stupidity is at the last part of the chorus in the song the commercial puts a stupid baby laughing like a devil. Now that sucks to have your art and good name being smashed on by a Halloween ad, I know that the Thriller music video had zombies and ghouls but the song was good and the dancing was incredibly intense and too compare garbage Halloween costumes with thriller is dumb. A major point to my shallow yet sensible agreement is the payment to the Jackson family royalties. Musicians make a fortune off of people who use their music. An example would be in the use of Bruce Lee and the Jeet Kune Do name people can’t use Bruce Lee’s name or image without first paying to the Lee family royalties. That to me is bogus because it cheapens the art of the artist. The artist should have his art to be displayed in formal fashion and very respectfully but families like the Lees and Jackson’s endorse and surrender their souls for a dollar at the drop of a hat. Seeing artist and musicians’ like Alice Cooper is really stupid because you see this crazy dude who’s supposed be down with the conformist society saling school supplies for staples. I think if your message is to be the either the greatest pop musician ever or one of the most influencing rocker than live up to the name .Selling worthless crap like cheerios and school supplies isn’t cutting it artistically and it send the message to the audience and your fans that you are a sale out phony. For me when I think of Bruce Lee’s family royalties it sucks because allot of people look up to Lee and for him to have his name make more money dead while alive is trippy. Wheatear it’s Michael Jackson, the Smashing Pumpkins, the grateful dead or any other group being a sale out it’s cool towards the fan base and it deadens the art of the artist.

Week 10 Gangsters Paradise

There are many different types of music but none what so ever hit the urban city culture like the genre gangster rap. Rap has a lot of negative influences in it but the stories of gangster rap are told of hard lives in an environment for the less fourtant of people in the United States. How can someone bring the pain of his upbringing out into the media showing the glimpses of reality in the city streets? Coolie’s gangsta paradise is a song that embraces the gangster feel and life in it’s very monotone lyrics and hard words. The music video is very interesting it shows Coolio raping to Michelle Pfeiffer about his experiences as a gangster. The music video is very dark and ominous because he starts to preach his problems to a white woman alone in candle lite room barley able to make out his face within the darkness. Other parts of video show the heavy set man singing in a dark room crying as if he is troubled by the pain of the life he choose a good example of this is in the lyrics of
We've been spending most our lives
Living in the Gangsta's Paradise
In the music video Coolio is singing to Pfeiffer about the problems . As he sings the scenes in the video change from a heavy set singing and crying about his painful experiences with his choices , other parts include scenes from the movie dangerous minds in which Michelle Pfeiffer plays a hard knock school teacher bent on saving a troubled school deep in LA. Some of the songs lyrics are pretty intense there’s a church inspired chorus that sings through out song making a more emotional feel to it. Lyrics like”
“As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I take a look at my life and realize there's nuttin left “and
I'm the kinda G the little homies wanna be like
On my knees in the night
Sayin prayers in the street light

These lyrics have religious notations attached to them that puts a deep feel into the songs meaning of a persons ideal life on the streets . My personal belief about the song is that the song expresses the ideas of a gang bangers life style is life on the edges. Coolio expresses the ideas of life being very falsified by theb hard life killing , and gangbanging in the lyrics of
I'm livin life do-or-die-a, what can I say?
I'm twenty-three now, but will I live to see twenty-fo'?
The way things is goin I dunno

This song and music video is really challenging too the listener because it speaks the truth about the life style of a intercity gang banger who lives are shorten by violence , crime and drugs . I found the song and music video to be a delight and I can hope that hip hop goes back to its truthful roots of what really happens in life.
