Week 9's Fantastic Review o

In wake of my spring break I have decided to roll big this time on dubs. In today’s industries society people seem to put up a front and the every so youthful generation is looking for someone to keep it real. Eminem or Marshall Meathers is a pop icon that hails from Detriot. Eminem’s realistic view point’s have helped younger kids express themselves in a more vibrant way. Though i listen to mostly house and techhouse where lyrics aren't as imcorpated into the music, I do appreciate the greatness of well placed lyrics from the likes of Coldplay, Dido and Metallica. Lyrics are very important because lyrics are what makes the songs message come alive. Lyrics can both have an external an internal point of view to them. An example of external song writer would be John Legend and internal would be Jay Z even though I think he looks a like a koopa from Super Mario’s brothers game. Direct, indirect , hard, soft , violent and peaceful music are all a part of musical influences that shape our world today. Music as a influencer has been in the mind since the days of the ancient Greeks when they said the harmony and rhythm have the ability to control people. I would see Eminem as a person that keeps it real because of his improvised background and hard life growing up in Detroit. Kids react to Eminem because he does not rap about sex, money or a car that he raps about life and simply his attaire proves his philosophy. Teenagers respect the fact that Eminem gives props to his elders, also teenagers respect his love for people being that he loves his daughter very much. The teenage generation is a generation that is looking for heroes and heroines to show them things like values, respect, honor and peace. Not every teenager out there listening to hip hop is looking for sounds their looking for philosophy or a way to become someone. Eminem is a prime example of what young adults are searching for. Eminem is rude , vulgar and speaks the truth well other hip hop artist only talk about foolish things and choices like car’s , booty , boats and wealth. Eminem’s world view is that stuff is garbage and it doesn’t last forever so his message is clearly directed to wake up people from there Americanized lives. I think why the teenage audience follows him so well is because he doesn’t lie or try to be anything that isn’t himself. Eminem’s realistic points of view open the minds of what hip hop culture have been subjected to for years. Hip hop culture needs more people like him to keep a realistic message about life rather than assuming that girls, cars and planes will bring the ultimate truth to life. Now people don’t like him because of his vulgar language against certain people or groups or that some of his lyrics are a little of the wall but to me he is an artist that speaks the truth.

  1. I really agree with how you explained Eminem and his style of rap. I agree that his type of rap is realistic and doesn’t blend with the fake gangster or drug dealer life style but talks about how people feel who are just regular Joe’s. I also agree that the young adults are attracted to Eminem because they feel he represents them the best. The y have a connection to him like no other artist. He doesn’t just appeal to the white community but all communities in the low end of societies spectrum. He talks about growing up in the public housing systems in Detroit and how he wasn’t taken seriously when people found out he was white. His underground music is what took Eminiem to stardom as people hadn’t heard anything like him before. And even though people now criticize him because he says stuff about certain groups and makes fun of homosexuals he is still one of the most successful artist of this current generation and that is amazing. I think this piece really laid out all of that and was very intriguing to read.
