Punk Rock ansd its Crtitcs
Paul Cobleys opinion on the phenomenon of punk music is relevant he explains the many different retrospects. Punk music is esstianlly a hated form of rock by the media. The media hates punk rock because of the image that the punk rockers portray to the people. Peoples concern in America about punk is that it is an immoral musical type that influences violence, sex , and blasmephy. Punk at its core roots is counter culturally the scenes fans are often dirty, un shaved, smelly and having bizarre piercings and hair. I remember that in high school their was this punk rock chick I mean she was cool as heck but you could smell her from a mile away. Paul mentions that punk was seen as a national menace and that the music was seen as catosphoric to the Christian churches. Punks true roots come from the anti establishment and garage type music. I believe that the misunderstanding of punk and other forms of music comes from the social stigmata of what people think is moral. A lot of people go around judging other people for not being like them it’s a evident case in the Christian churches where the pastors and priest are supposed to act like Jesus but instead act like the Pharisees who persecuted Christ. The churches where the moral fiber to the world but like an apple tree there are some bad apples. The root is that America for years was a consertive country I mean the gap between 1950’s America and now is pretty amazing I mean in the 1950s no one sweared on TV and now you flip to HBO and the dude is going bonkers on the swear factory. The generational gap is also has a afflicting aspect towards differences of musical taste. If I have someone who is fourteen he wouldn’t want to listen to the Beegees because to him the Beegees aree whack I would assume a fourteen year old would want to listen to Lil Wayne or some other stupid crap but non the less the age gap does play an important factor in the way we address each other. Another factor that comes into play is that the times are changing. The music scene has always changed for a season it’s like every ten years a musical genre will dominate and then it will be crushed by another force of opposition that over takes the scene. Misunderstanding of music can be tragic because the people who listen to any kind of music don’t need to be judged by some crazy moral hypocrite or some government official bashing punk rock because it’s the social norm to outlaw what is unfit in societies laws. Society bases on what’s rights by the moral code or norm of the land but people should get gun hoe about they think is right in their own eyes. Paul Cobely explains that despite the criticism of Punk rock people still dig the music and they still are listening despite the opinions of one social group.

I remember watching an interview on MTV of Greenday but I don’t remember understanding why punk Rock is looked down upon. Do they really carry an odor? Is that really the statement that they are making? …..I had no idea. I think the real problem that seems to cycle throughout the decades is that the older generation happens to hate the music of the younger generation. Whether it is rock, pop, or rap, it’s always those who differ greatly in age when it comes to those opposed to the genre of modern expression. If you go back into to time, you will notice it was the same thing when rock and roll first surfaced. The parents and elders strongly despised rock and roll and accused it of being “devil music”. Today rap gets a bad a rap too, and as you have said, punk music also. It’s truly about the narrow minded, judgmental majority who makes bad claims towards the music and seems to stamp it with the “garbage”stamp. It’s all about perspective and having an open mind. If the past generations took a look back to relate what they had gone through with their “fads” of their time, we would be in a much different situation today.
